a full-on RIPOFF that hopes to achieve sim. Cartoons, MGM Cartoon Studio and Walter Lantz Productions. The company released a brand new trailer this week for the game, showing off the art. The game's creators, brothers Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, took inspiration from the rubber hose style of the golden age of American animation and the surrealist qualities of works of Walt Disney Animation Studios, Fleischer Studios, Warner Bros. Cuphead took seven years to make and it shows, even at the earliest stages it still looked better than this. Cuphead is an amazing love letter to 1930s cartoons, but the game's popularity has led to something interesting. Which is exactly what everyone seems to be pointing at today as the game appears to be a ripoff of Cuphead. People want another Cuphead but something like this just won't live up to that hype and they would have had an uphill struggle to win over people even in the best circumstances. It just highlights the comparison between the two all the more and makes the newer game look worse in every way by default. To the people pointing out how the proliferation of cartoons back in that style way back when was in itself due to dozens of copycats an imitators, you're correct, but Cuphead stylistically and aesthetically is a leader in a field of one, certainly in the medium of videogames. Cyborg Cow doesn't fit the whole 20s aesthetic at all, and Cuphead took very great pains to be period appropriate even when they were referencing things made fifty years after the rubber hose style cartoons. Some of the designs look like they could fit into Cuphead no problem (particularly the Frog Princess who kisses a frog to turn him into a prince, and then turns into a frog herself and starts spitting out flies, that's genuinely great) but most of them just seem kind of by the numbers.
